Commissioning a Pet Portrait

Do you take pet portrait commissions from outside the UK?- Yes, as I work entirely by digital photographs I can take commissions and send completed portraits to almost anywhere in the world. Postage outside the UK is typically with UPS.

Can you help in getting a photograph to work from?- Of course, working from the right photograph, when commissioning a pet portrait from photos, is integral to the final result, so if you need any guidance just let me know and I would be more than happy to help. I have a step by step guide to taking pet portrait photographs and also my blog has a number of articles on pet photography.

What format do my photographs need to be in?- The photographs of your pet are best in jpg. format. The most important thing is that you send me the original image (not a screenshot) full-sized. When you email a photo there is usually a message that pops up asking "do you want to send this image full-sized?", please select yes, or the largest number M.B option. If you only have photographs in

What size of pet portrait should I commission? - The size of portrait that is right for you is dependent on a few things, including what animal you want a portrait of, how many subjects you want including and what kind of composition you decide on. I have suggestions on what size is suitable for each option on my separate animal prices page.  If you have any questions on what size of pet portrait to commission, do not hesitate to contact me

How do you go about creating my portrait once you have my photographs?-

The first step is to decide what type of portrait you want. From there I design a composition for you to approve. When you are happy with that, I will create an outline drawing. This is for you to check you are happy with the proportions and the composition one last time before I start with the colour.

Once I get the go-ahead, I start with the pastel pencils and this when your portrait really starts to come to life. Some clients like to have a few updates as the portrait progresses and others like to wait until I have finished the portrait before I show them a photograph. From there its framing and/or shipment.

Would it be possible to see the pet portrait before it is sent out?- Yes I will send a photograph of the work to check you are happy before it is sent. If needed you can give suggestions and I’ll make any amendments that you’d like and then send you another photograph to see if they’ve been successful. It’s important to have input from the person who knows the subject best.

Pet Portrait Prices and Payment

How much will my pet portrait cost?- Please see my prices page.

When do I pay for my pet portrait? To secure your booking I require a booking payment of 35%. When the portrait is nearly finished you will received a photograph of it by email, giving you a chance to let me know what you think of it.

Once you are happy you then send through your final payment, and once this is received and cleared I will send your portrait out to you. This way you only pay when you know exactly what you are receiving! If you are not completely happy with the scan of your portrait and I can’t fix it for you, you don’t have to buy it.  Likewise if on receipt of your portrait you are unhappy with it, I can refund you on the condition the portrait is returned.

How do I pay for my pet portrait?- The easiest way to pay (if you are in the UK) is by internet transfer/online banking which I will provide details for. I also offer PayPal by request.
